I personally prefer the Rapid-Loader due to its simplicity, but you should choose what works for you. This is NOT light-duty use and I have NEVER had a problem with either of my two units (and the reason I bought a second unit is because the first unit keeps getting borrowed.). And when I do edging, I don't just skim the surface, I cut 1/2"-1" into the dirt along the edge line (see attached photo). I actually replaced a 5HP metal-blade edger with the GT-225 for this purpose. But I primarily use the unit to edge along the driveway, walkways, flower beds and the street. The lightest duty I use the trimmer for is to trim grass near fence lines. I use my GT-225 for a home with a yard that is close to 1/2 acre. Get a unit with the Speed-Feed 400 instead. Case in point, if you don't like changing the trimmer line manually, then why buy a unit with a Rapid-Loader head? Disliking a particular design does not mean there is a problem with the unit. I just purchased my 2nd GT-225 and I know I am going to say a few things that flow in a contrary direction to some of what I see in some of the reviews, but I hate to see folks knocking a good and reliable product when they illustrate by what they say that they don't know how to use a product correctly. Major pain! Inefficient! Awful waste of valuable time! Memorial Day weekend I was forced to work with line of cord inserted instead of a more efficient two! The jam prevents new line from being inserted. Problem 2 - the line cord remnants occasionally jam inside the head assembly and cannot be easily removed with a pliers or small nosed tool. A more durable cord design might be a solution. Don’t even bother using it along a sidewalk or fence! The only solution I’ve found is to lessen up on the throttle which is a performance inefficiency and does not always extend cord life. 095 recommended Echo brand / thickness and within a few short minutes (sometimes seconds) replacement line is needed. Problem 1 - the line cord requires near immediate replacement. others on the retail display rack believing it was the best performance / value option. I bought this tool based solely on Echo’s reputation for quality. rotate (which loads the line on the reel spool) until about 7 inches show on each side 16. pull line through until it is equal on both side in length 14: rotate round head (I think counter clockwise, it will only rotate one way, it will click as it spins) 15. look for holes in side of round head and slide line through until it comes out the other side (arrows need to be aligned) 13. take new line and make one long section of about 10 to 13 feet (I raise my hand to measure to ground) 12. rotate wheel until two arrows line up (you may have to look a little) 11. replace reel, one side will fit closer than the other, choose that 9. the top and a string reel will pop off 7. don't have to push both at once but try to work top off 6. push tabs in and work the top of the round head off 5. Inspect the round head at the bottom and look for two opposing side tabs that you will push in (it's not easy but not too hard) 4.
